For those going through any breast reconstruction I utilize areola restoration tattooing as a way to help them gain their power back and give them a sense of control.

Areola tattooing places pigment is precise places to create a realistic 3D areola and nipple.
WHAT IS AREOLA RESTORATION
Restorative Tattoo is a permanent, superficial solution to re-pigment and add a 3D Nipple and Areola to the breasts. Areola restoration is Performed by depositing pigment in the upper region of the dermis with the use of a machine and several different needle configurations to achieve 3D Realism.
This tattoo technique gently places colored shading to create areolas and some minimal line work creating 3D nipples, this technique gives a soft and natural look without scabbing or bruising.

3D Nipple tattoos after Mastectomy
At least 100,000 women (does not include men) have some sort of mastectomy surgery a year.
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the United States.
When can you book your appointment?
It's important your mastectomy operation sites are completely healed. This can take up to a year, but I recommend waiting at least 4 months. You should also be completely finished with any radiate or chemotherapy. I also ask you check with your treatment team before scheduling just to be safe! Your safety is my top concern!
Does areola restoration hurt?
The first pass may be the most uncomfortable. I use a topical analgesic to keep you as comfortable as possible. Most people report mild discomfort but honestly, we are all different and our pain tolerance vary. There is no " yes or no" answer for this question.
How long does the appointment last?
The appointment for either one or both areola/nipple restoration is about 3 hours. Keep in mind it can be longer, I do not rush or overbook myself, so I don't recommend you have plans scheduled after your appointment either to allow as much time as required.
What are the risks of areola tattoing
TEMptations Brows & Beyond takes sanitation and your safety serious! It is our top priority. We use disposable supplies and all the recommended sterilization protocols.
However, even with all regulations and precautions there are risks.
Some of these risks are and are not limited to:
- infection
- Color fading
- redness and swelling
- Asymmetry- every attempt is made however if they are to0 perfect and symmetrical they just won't look real.
What can I expect at my appointment?
What should I wear to my appointment?
I recommend wearing a lose shirt that is easy on and off to decrease risk of pigment transfer. You will remove your top only and be given a robe to wear for comfort during your appointment. At the end of your tattoo the area is covered with a protective covering unless you have adverse reactions to adhesive. A bra is optional and at your discretion.
How long does it take for the areola/nipple tattoo to heal?
Approximately 7-10 days. Skin flaking and scabbing is normal so do not be alarmed. A thin coating of ointment will be applied during the healing process. A small non-adhesive pad will be applied to the area for the first days to avoid sticking to clothing. You will be required to wash the area once a day and apply ointment for the first 7-10 days.
How long will my areola tattoo last?
With standard tattoos they are expected to last a lifetime, with areola and nipple tattooing I use much lighter colors than a standard tattoo so you can expect there to be some fading that occurs over the years. At some point, you may have to have your color refreshed. Remember, I always go lighter on your first appointment because we can always darken at the second appointment but not lighten. So, lighter is always better to start.

What do I need to know about MRIs if I get an areola tattoo?
It's important to let your healthcare provider know previous to your Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as some patient's report burning and discomfort during the testing that does not last long.
I had reconstruction nipple surgery; Can I still have areola restoration?
Yes, it's important to mention that the pigment may not take as well in the reconstructed nipple and may require multiple appointments.
How many appointments are required?
I require a minimum of 2 appointments and encourage you to return for the 3rd appointment so I can take healed after photos and assess complete healing and pigment retention for optimal results.
